Following extension of the strike action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, students of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, on Friday staged a peaceful protest over the situation.
The students, who were armed with placards of various inscriptions, stormed the major highway at the main entrance of the institution.
They urged state governors to get involved in the negotiation as they revealed that the issue is now beyond the federal government.
During the protest, they chanted different solidarity songs as they decried the continued impasse between ASUU and the federal government.
Some of the placards read “Revitalize our Education” “End ASUU Strike” “Save our future” among others.
President of the Students’ Union Government, Kolade Ogunsanmi, condemned the continued strike action during the demonstration in Akungba- Akoko.
According to him, the protest was staged to express the students’ dissatisfaction over the situation.
Ogunsanmi bemoaned the constant shutdown of public universities, urging both ASUU and the Federal Government to reach an agreement.
Seyifunmi Francis Adeosun, a 300-level law student, appealed to state governors to intercede because the problem was beyond the federal government.
