Rector of Abia State College of Health and Management Technology, Aba, Prof Chigbu Lawrence has been suspended by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu with immediate effect.
In his place, the Head of Department, Public Health of the Institution, Dr Ezeakolam Nwogwugwu has been detailed to take over as the new Rector of the Aba-based school.
Ikpeazu in a press release signed by Chris Ezem, Secretary to Abia State government said the appointment of the new Rector is with immediate effect.
Ikpeazu had in an earlier statement on Tuesday, appointed Dr Nwamuo Alozie Kingsley as the new Rector but later withdrew the appointment based on security reports.
However, no details or explanations were given by the state government as to the reason behind the sack of the ex-Rector, Prof Chigbu Lawrence.
When DAILY POST visited the Institution in Aba, many students and officials were not on ground in the premises as they were said to have vacated to perform their civic responsibilities of voting in the March 18 elections.
A few staff and students seen milling around the school premises were seen discussing the developments in hushed tones.
