A commercial motorcyclist, Adegoke Adejare, on Monday donated writing materials worth thousands of naira to pupils of St. Paul’s Anglican School, Yanbule in Ibadan.
Mr Adejare, who charged the beneficiaries to always read their books at the ceremony, urged them to use the materials he donated to enhance their studies.
He said the donation was to encourage those who might be in need.
The motorcyclist also nicknamed ‘One Nigeria’ in the area, urged Nigerians to collaborate with the government in the development of the education sector.
“I donated books, pencils, pens and erasers. This is what I like to do. I never had the opportunity to attend a formal school, so I have vowed to do my best to support the government in developing the education sector, through little gestures such as this,” he said.
Also, Oluwatoyin Gbaroye, the Headmistress, St. Paul’s Anglican School 2, Yanbule, said that Mr Adejare’s gesture would encourage the pupils to take their studies seriously.
She thanked the donor on behalf of the management and teachers of the school, and assured that the books would be put to good use.
Similarly, Nureni Adeniran, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, commended Mr Adejare’s philanthropic act when he visited him.
Mr Adeniran also thanked Mr Adejare for his consideration to complement the government’s efforts.
He said that although the state government would make life better for pupils through provision of basic amenities, it would also welcome philanthropic gestures from members of the public.
He also called on key players in the education sector to support the state government’s efforts to improve the standard of education in the state.
He said, “Government does not have all of the funding. Therefore, if Nigerians can come out to assist the government in this sector, I am certain the future of our children will be more secure.”
Mr Adeniran promised that the state government would further recognise Mr Adejare’s kind heartedness through a commendation letter.
