The Lagos Education District V has emerged as champion in this year’s festival of chorale and classical music clinching the first position with Education District VI and IV taking the second and third position respectively.
For the solo performances, Education district III emerged first while District V and District VI took the second and third positions.
In her keynote address, Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, commended the excellent performances of the students.
She said, “It is a beautiful time away from the academic activities to see you showcase your innate talent in music. It further exemplifies the essence of co- curricula aspect of education. The soloists warmed our hearts as they entertained us. It is the brilliant participation that matters most.”
Similarly, the Tutor-General, Permanent Secretary, Education District III, Dr Mrs Olufunke Oyetola, in an opening remark on behalf of the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Mr Abayomi Abolaji, restated the significance of the annual programme.
“We will continue to encourage the pupils and students to polish their talents in other aspects, it shouldn’t be limited to classroom studies,” she stated.
The presentation by the state school chorale and orchestra opened the performances after which students from the various education districts across the state participated in a most interesting 2-format presentation, first in Choral and the Solo presentation.
Special performances by the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB Choir, Lagos State Technical Vocational Education Board, LASTVEB and the CMS Grammar School team set the hall into a frenzy singing classics like Christy Essien’s “Omo mi seun were” and Ksa’s ‘Aimasiko’ laced with sonorous voices and jazzy violin notes.
Trophies for outstanding performances and certificates of participation were presented to district representatives.
