How Nigerian Athlete, Tobi Amusan Broke World Record, Won Women’s 100m Hurdles

A Nigerian female athlete, Tobi Amusan, has broken the world record by winning the first ever Gold medal at the World Athletics Championship Women’s 100m Hurdles in Oregon.

Tobi emerged winner after finishing at 12.06sec seconds to break the Women’s 100m Hurdles World record at Hayward Field on Sunday evening.

She had earlier in the day broken the world record by emerging a winner at the semi-final after she clocked 12.12 seconds, breaking the 2016 record of 12.20 seconds held by Keni Harrison of the United States of America.

Britany Anderson of Jamaica took silver in 12.23 seconds, while Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico clinched the bronze medal in 12.23 in her first World Championships.

Tobi was in tears of joy as she was presented with a cheque of $100,000 on Sunday evening after her victory.

The 25-year-old Tobi from Ijebu Ode in Ogun State has been receiving applause on Twitter and across social media platforms since her victory.
