O’Level Subjects & Requirements for Building Technology
You are required to have at least five (5) SSC credit passes in the required O’Level subjects which have been listed below. Also note that the O’Level requirements apply to NECO, GCE, WAEC, and their equivalent.
NECO, GCE, WAEC Subject Combination for Building Technology:
1). Physics.
2). Chemistry.
3). English Language.
4). Mathematics.
5). And any one of Economics, Geography, Technical drawing, and Art.
NOTE: For holders of NTC, the other relevant subjects could be Bricklaying, Intro. to Building Construction, Concreting, Building/Engineering Drawing, Walls, Carpentry, Gas, Floors and Ceiling Finishing, Joinery, Steam Work and Bronze Welding, Sanitation and Drainage, and Cold / Hot Water Supply.
WAIVER/SPECIAL CONSIDERATION
1). ABU requires 5 ‘O’ level credit passes in the following Physics, English Language, and Mathematics in addition to any two (2) of Biology, Chemistry, Fine Arts or Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, and Economics.
2). COVENANT requires Physics, English Language, and Mathematics in addition to two (2) ‘O’ level credit passes in Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Economics, Land Surveying, Further Mathematics, Geography, Building Construction, Agricultural Science, and Biology. Requires at least an ‘O’ level pass in Chemistry.
3). AAU doesn’t make it compulsory for Chemistry.
4). UNIJOS accepts ‘A’ level passes which must not be in more than two (2) sittings in Mathematics and either Chemistry or Physics or both and at least two (2) ‘O’ level credit passes from Land Surveying, Building Construction, Fine Arts, Economics, Technical Drawing plus Geography, Mathematics, and English Language.
5). UNILAG requires the fifth (5th) subject to be one of Building Construction, Economics, or Technical Drawing.
6). MAUTY requires ‘O’ level credit passes in Physics in addition to any other 2 subjects from Economics, Building Construction, Geography, Further Mathematics, painting and decoration, Technical Drawing, Biology, Chemistry, Bricklaying and concrete work, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting/Electrical installation and Maintenance work/Block laying.
7). BELLS requires 5 ‘O’ level credit passes in Mathematics, Chemistry, English Language, Physics, and any 1 of Technical Drawing, Biology, Geography, Building Construction, and Economics.
8). FUTA requires that the 5th subject should be taken from Geography, Economics, Building Construction and Technical Drawing, and Further Mathematics.
9). OAU accepts any one of Biology, Land Surveying, Mathematics, Building Construction plus to the listed options.
10). CALEB requires 5 ‘O’ level credit passes or equivalents in English Language, Physics, Mathematics, and any two (2) of Technical Drawing, Building Construction, Economics, Biology, Geography, and Chemistry.
11). ATBU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in Physics, Mathematics, English Language, and any two (2) subjects from Geography, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, economics, or relevant trade subjects.
12). ABSU requires five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes in Physics, Mathematics, English Language, and any 2 subjects from Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Geography, Economics, and Arts or any NTC relevant subject.
13). FUTMINNA requires Physics, Mathematics, English Language, and any 2 from Geography, Fine Arts, Chemistry, Economics, Technical Drawing, Biology, and Building Construction.
JAMB Subject Combination for Building Technology
There are three (3) subjects that you will meet in your JAMB UTME examination and you are expected to score up to the JAMB cut-off mark for Building Technology which is 180 for Universities.
1). Physics.
2). Chemistry.
3). Mathematics.
WAIVER/SPECIAL CONSIDERATION
1). ESUTECH accepts Economics, Biology, or Geography in place of Chemistry.
2). FUTMINNA requires Mathematics, Physics, and anyone from Geography, Chemistry, Biology, Arts, or Economics.
3). ABU requires Physics, Mathematics, and any one of Geography, Chemistry, Economics, Technical Drawing, and Biology.
Direct Entry (DE) Admission Requirements for Building Technology
If you don’t intend to gain admission to study Building Technology through UTME, then ensure that you can meet with Building Technology admission requirements for Direct Entry (DE) candidates:
- ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
WAIVER/SPECIAL CONSIDERATION
1). BELLS requires:
i). Two (2) A’ Level passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
ii). ND/HND upper credit respectively in Building Technology.
2). CALEB accepts candidates with ND for admission consideration into the 200 level provided they meet the following:
i). Score at least 60% overall average or upper credit in the ND examination.
ii). They must also obtain five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes at not more than two (2) sittings in the following subjects; English Language, Physics, Mathematics, and any 2 subjects from Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Economics, Biology, and Further Mathematics. Holders of other qualifications such as HSC, GCE, and A’ level will be considered for 200 level.
3). UNIUYO accepts HND lower credit or ND upper credit.
4). ABU accepts;
i). IJMB/‘A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics in addition to anyone in Geography, Biology, Chemistry, and Economics.
ii). ND upper credit in Building must be from an accredited institution.
iii). HND lower credit in Building must also be from an accredited institution.
5). OAU and IMSU accept HND/ND upper credit in relevant programs into 300/200 level provided they meet the following requirements:
i). ND course must ensure that it includes Mathematics at ND II level;
ii). Have an ‘A’ level in Mathematics or its equivalent.
6). UNILAG requires:
i). Very good passes in three (3) JUPEB/’A’-level subjects: Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry.
ii). ND/HND distinction in relevant programs for admission consideration into 200/300 levels. Candidates must also ensure that they meet the UTME requirements.
7). AAU accepts ‘O’ level pass in Chemistry. HND/ND in relevant programs from recognized institutions.
8). UNIJOS accepts;
i). ND/HND with a GPA of not less than 3.50 in Building or Civil Engineering for the 200 level.
ii). ND lower credit in Building Engineering as well as other appropriate programs in addition to ‘O’ level credit passes in Physics, English Language, and Mathematics.
9). MAUTY accepts ND lower credit or HND pass in Building or any relevant programs.
10). MAUTY, FUTMINNA, and ATBU accept ND/HND lower credit in relevant courses plus the UTME requirements.
11). FUTA accepts;
i). ‘A’ level passes in Physics and Mathematics at one (1) sitting.
ii). ND upper credit in Quantity Surveying, or Civil Engineering, Building, Architecture from an accredited institution.
iii). Any additional pass in Chemistry, Geography, or Economics may be an advantage.
