The Kogi State Ministry of Education has commenced teacher recruitment to address the shortfall in the state schools.
The state Science Teaching Service Commission on Tuesday commenced aptitude tests for over 6,000 applicants jostling for the 2000 vacant positions across the state.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wemi Jones, who opened the aptitude test for the shortlisted candidates at the Kogi State Polytechnic CBT centre eulogised the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for making education a top priority project.
He expressed gratitude to the governor for making efforts to fill the vacancies existing in Kogi schools, pointing out that the vacuum had limited teaching.
The state government said it would in the first batch employ successful 2000 teachers to resume in the new session, describing the gesture by Gov. Yahaya Bello as unprecedented.
The commissioner said the previous administration had dodged that responsibility, and stressed that the governor’s love for education, necessitated his directives to engage teachers.
“The state is resolved to employing qualified teachers that will serve as the bedrock for sustainable education as envisioned by the present administration,” he said.
He urged the candidates to put up their best assuring that the merit principle would determine the successful candidates.
The Executive Chairman, Kogi State Science Technical Education and Teaching Service Commission (STETSCOM), Mrs. Cecilia Cook said the Commission is resolved to employ qualified teachers, and praised Gov. Bello for the opportunity to fill existing vacancies in Kogi schools.
She disclosed that the aptitude test which will be conducted in batches will be Computer Based(CBT) and will hold between Tuesday and Thursday.
