Lecturers at the Prince Abubakar Audu University, Kogi State have been warned against extortion of students as they risk dismissal from the institution.
Vice-Chancellor of the institution Prof Marietu Ohunene Tenuche gave the warning when the university matriculated 6,470 students for the 2021/2022 academic session.
The University Don noted that any act of extortion or sharp practices is capable of bringing ridicule to the name of the institution, State and parents, adding that any lecturer found wanting in any unprofessional act will be shown the exit door.
While sounding a note of warning on the student to shun examination malpractice, cultism, indecent dressing, rape, and extortion of money from students using class representatives, Prof. Tenuche said such action would attract serious discipline from the University.
“The Senate decision to abolish the class representatives liaising between students and lecturers is being sustained. This is important because the abundant ICT facilities in the 21st Century should be seamlessly deployed as a medium of communication between lecturers and students.
” Students should be on the lookout towards the elimination of these dangerous vices on campus by reporting irregular behaviour. The institution has a committee who are responsible towards addressing any act that is capable of denting the image of our prestigious University” she added.
