Education liberates the intellect, unlocks the imagination and is fundamental for self-respect. It is the key to prosperity and opens a world of opportunities, making it possible for each of us to contribute to a progressive, healthy society. Learning in itself benefits every human being and should be available to all.
The Nigeria Student Venture Prize is designed to empower the most advanced, yet simple entrepreneurial ventures by Nigerian undergraduates and graduate students. It seeks to support individual students who have identified a significant opportunity, and whose ventures have the potential to create impact at scale.
The prize is agnostic to what sectors or industries’ ventures are working in, or even whether they are commercial, social, or have blended approaches. A student/group of students- maximum of 4 team members, that have been able to identify an opportunity or challenge and is thinking big about how to solve it will be given the opportunity to showcase their ideas.
NSVP is rethinking tertiary education in Nigeria with entrepreneurship to create opportunities and solve the national problems. It is intended to help these students accelerate and scale those solutions.
Established two years ago with a hiatus in 2020 due to the global pandemic, it is the first and only student venture prize in Nigeria. The Prize identifies the talents and technology of tomorrow.
The second edition is back; better and bigger. The organizers of the Prize have invested time, resources and manpower to refine the Prize with three core distinguishing features; curricular, co-curricular and venture funding.
Following the press conference on August 31, 2021, the application portal is now opened to students for application with their ideas. The application will run for 8 weeks from September 1 – October 31 backed with social media promotions, radio/TV jingles, ads and sensitization tours to different universities to ensure as many students as possible learn about this opportunity of a lifetime.
Twenty (20) finalists will be shortlisted and camped at a one-week Bootcamp for intense training in different aspects of practical business education; understanding the business environment, defining customer cluster, business plans/proposals that convert, building a team, leveraging digital, scaling and even more. The co-curricular component of The Prize thereby comes to play.
Classes at the boot camp will be taken by some of Nigeria’s most successful entrepreneurs and corporate executives that serve as Mentors of the Prize. The Bootcamp will climax in a Lion’s Den/Grand Finale on December 4 where the finalist will pitch their big ideas.
For the second edition, finalists will compete and pitch for N3M in prize money that is designed to help them launch their high-impact ventures into the world.
This edition’s winner will also represent Nigeria at the University Startup World Cup for the first time, competing with over 100 international teams from universities across the world, pitching for a chance to win 15,000 USD.
The winner will also have the opportunity to network, learn and grow. Teams will have access to investors, mentors and other experts from both Denmark and China. Eligible students are hereby encouraged to apply.
