Eligible Ukrainians living in Canada can apply for a one-time, transitional financial assistance payment.
Ukrainians and their family members who are in Canada and have valid work, study, temporary resident permita or visitor record under the Canada-Ukraine authorisation for emergency travel are eligible to receive funding of $3,000 per person for adults and $1,500 for children aged under 17 years.
Sean Fraser, the Canadian minister of immigration, refugees and citizenship said in a statement “our commitment to Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s illegal war doesn’t stop once they’ve arrived in Canada”.
“We will continue to help those seeking refuge live and thrive in communities across the country,” he said.
“This one-time financial assistance will be crucial in addressing the immediate challenges faced by Ukrainians who have left so much behind to find a safe haven in Canada” he added.

The government of Canada has launched an online portal which applications for financial assistance can be submitted through.
Karina Gould, minister of families, children and social development said “it is crucially important that Ukrainians fleeing the war in Ukraine are supported as they arrive in Canada”.
“Service Canada is committed to delivering this financial assistance as quickly as possible to ensure that families have the necessary support they need as they are welcomed into their new communities,” she added.
The funds are made available to Ukrainians to help them to meet basic needs as they settle in Canada, going towards transportation and longer-term housing.
The Canadian government recently organised three chartered flights from Poland, bringing Ukrainian refugees to Winnipeg, Halifax and finally Montreal, most recently, on June 2 2022.

The Canadian Bureau for International Education has worked closely with the Ukrainian government and education partners over 30 years to “build institutional capacity, modernize governance systems, improve transparency, strengthen educational linkages and make equitable access to the rights of citizenship the norm”, it said earlier this year.
In 2013, it signed an agreement with The Union of Rectors of Higher Educational Institutions of Ukraine to broaden HE collaboration and research between the two countries.
“The deep connections forged between Canada and Ukraine through international education will be maintained; we will not lessen our commitments or abandon our colleagues in their time of need,” the organisation said in February.
