Beginning on December 8, doctors in Abia State will go on an indefinite strike in protest of the State Government’s failure to pay their salaries.
Doctors working at ABSUTH and HMB are owed between 21 and 25 months’ worth of salary arrears and 13 months’ worth of salary arrears, respectively, according to newsmen who spoke with Dr. Abali Isaiah and Dr. Daniel Ekeleme, chairman and secretary of the state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
They said:-
“That the 21- day ultimatum approved by the National Executive Council (NEC) of NMA and given to ABSG on November 17, to clear the aforementioned salary arrears is currently in its 17th day.
“That ABSG is yet to show any serious commitment to the course.
“That doctors working with ABSUTH and HMB are currently undergoing an untold hardship.â€
