Plateau State University Branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, (SSANU) has accused the Management and Governing Board of the University of not intervening in its seven months strike.
The Union also expressed regret that the panel constituted about four months ago to resolve some disputes in the Institution has held several meetings with sister Unions but has not held a single meeting with SSANU.
SSANU equally called on the state government to release the sum of N323 million for the payment of arrears of earned allowances to its members.
SSANU made the claims in a press statement signed by its Chairman, Timnam Rindap and Secretary, Fom Dakwak and made available to journalists in Plateau State.
It reads: “Funds recently released to the Plateau State University Bokkos by Government for the payment of arrears of earned allowances was used in settling the arrears owed only members of the sister union in question, leaving our members out.
SSANU said, “This development has created a situation where the sister union has been paid eight years of its arrears leaving a balance of one year while members, who work in the same University, have only been paid four years leaving a balance of seven.
“The discrimination meted out to our members has generated high tension in the system and the Union should not be held responsible should the current situation degenerate into further crisis”, SSANU warned.
“We are calling on the State Government to release the sum of N323 million owed our members as arrears of earned allowances.
“We further call on Management and Governing Council of the University to pay hazard allowance into our member’s monthly salaries at the agreed rate of N30,000, for which our Union agitated and obtained cash backing from Government since February 2021”, SSANU stressed.
